As the year draws to a close, CheckEye continues to make strides in expanding its mission to provide accessible healthcare. Just before the Christmas holidays, CheckEye’s CEO, Kyrylo Goncharuk, visited Albania to meet with the Diabetic Association of Albania (Shoqata e Diabetit në Shqipëri) and officially signed a memorandum of understanding.

This new partnership marks an important milestone for CheckEye’s global expansion efforts. By collaborating with Professor Florian Toti and his team, CheckEye aims to introduce early detection of diabetes complications, such as diabetic retinopathy, to Albanian citizens. Early screening plays a critical role in preventing vision loss and improving the quality of life for people with diabetes.

Albania, with its 8.3% adult diabetes prevalence rate, faces a growing challenge in managing the disease and its complications. By providing timely screenings, CheckEye intends to reduce healthcare costs related to diabetes complications, which according to the International Diabetes Federation Europe, account for 75% of diabetes-related healthcare expenses in Europe.

We are grateful to the Ukrainian Diabetic Federation and the Filatov Institute for their ongoing support from the very beginning. With this new partnership, we’re one step closer to our goal of making healthcare more accessible to everyone.

Step by step, we’re changing the landscape of diabetes prevention and healthcare in Albania and beyond.
